CSUN Portal Password & Security Settings
Keeping your CSUN portal account secure is extremely important. Your account contains sensitive personal information, academic records, and financial data. In this section, we will cover the basics of password management and security settings. For a complete detailed guide, check out our dedicated CSUN Portal Password Reset Guide.
How to Reset Your CSUN Password
Forgetting your password is one of the most common issues students face. Fortunately, CSUN provides multiple ways to reset your password:
Method 1: Reset via Email
Visit auth.csun.edu/reset, enter your CSUN username, and select the email reset option. A password reset link will be sent to your recovery email address. Click the link and create a new password.
Method 2: Reset via Security Questions
If you set up security questions during account activation, you can use them to verify your identity and reset your password directly on the CSUN authentication page.
Method 3: Contact IT Help Desk
If the above methods do not work, you can contact the CSUN IT Help Desk at (818) 677-1400 for assistance. They can verify your identity and help you reset your password over the phone or in person.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
CSUN requires all users to set up Duo Two-Factor Authentication for added security. Two-factor authentication means that even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without your second verification method (usually your phone).
Here is how Duo 2FA works with the CSUN portal:
- Duo Push: You receive a push notification on the Duo Mobile app installed on your smartphone. Simply tap “Approve” to verify your identity.
- Duo Passcode: The Duo Mobile app generates a temporary passcode that you can enter on the login page.
- Phone Call: Duo can call your registered phone number, and you approve the login by pressing a key.
Account Locked – Quick Fix
If you enter the wrong password too many times, your CSUN account may get locked as a security measure. Here is what you can do:
- Wait for 30 minutes and try again — accounts often unlock automatically after a cooldown period
- Use the password reset process to create a new password
- Contact the IT Help Desk at (818) 677-1400 for immediate assistance
